The Daily Grind: a café that turned regulars into a streak

A walkthrough of how a typical independent coffee shop sets up and runs gamification.click — from the reward ladder to the daily customer journey to the numbers it's built to move.

Note: "The Daily Grind" is an illustrative demo scenario used to show how the platform works. The figures below describe what the programme is designed to influence, not a guarantee or a specific client's results.

The business

The Daily Grind is a single-site speciality coffee shop with a steady weekday trade and a wall of paper stamp cards behind the counter — most of them half-finished, many lost. The owner wanted the repeat-visit habit those cards were meant to create, without the friction that made them fail.

The setup (about five minutes)

The owner signs in, sets the brand name, picks a teal brand colour to match the shop, and builds a reward ladder that protects margin early and rewards loyalty later:

Day 3☕ Free coffee upgrade — an easy early win that brings people back a fourth time
Day 7🎁 15% off the order — a meaningful one-week reward
Day 14⭐ Free pastry
Day 30👑 VIP status and a standing perk

A one-line snippet goes on the shop's website, and a small QR code on the counter points customers to it. Email reminders are switched on for 6pm, with win-back messages enabled.

The customer journey

A regular scans the counter QR, joins with their email, and checks in. The next morning they get a gentle nudge — "keep your streak alive" — and tap once on their phone. On day three the widget reveals a free-upgrade code, which they show at the till. Miss a day and the streak resets, but a same-evening win-back message invites them to start again. The mechanic that matters most is loss aversion: people return to protect a streak they've invested in.

What the programme is designed to move

↑ Visit frequency
More repeat visits per regular per month
↓ Lapse rate
Reminders catch streaks before they break
First-party data
Owned customer list, not a platform's

Because every check-in, streak and redemption is recorded, the owner can see in the dashboard exactly how many customers are on a live streak, how many checked in today, and how many rewards have been claimed — and tie that to takings.

Why it sticks

The programme works because it's almost effortless for the customer (one tap), genuinely branded as the café's own, and backed by reminders that do the remembering for people. For the owner it replaces a shoebox of paper cards with a living view of their most loyal customers.
